Edinburgh motorist captures aftermath of one car smash that saw vehicle overturn

A concerned motorist has sent in footage that appears to show a red car laying on its side following an accident on the evening of Tuesday, September 13.

In the video, which was captured by a dashboard camera, a car can be seen slowly creeping forward before a red car laying on its side on Drum Street by Gilmerton Road.

Several people can be seen standing around the vehicle in shock with a number of cars brought to a standstill by the incident.

A Lothian bus also appears to have halted its journey in order for a clean up operation to take place.

Officers from Police Scotland said that the incident took place at around 8:40pm on Tuesday evening.

They add that Drum Street was closed for a short period of time and that the driver of the overturned car was taken to the Royal Infirmary for treatment for their injuries.

It is understood that only one vehicle was involved in the crash on the busy stretch of road.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a one vehicle crash in Drum Street, Edinburgh around 8.40pm on Tuesday, 13 September, 2022.

"The road was closed for a short time to allow for recovery. The driver was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.”
