Edinburgh M8 drivers face delays after three-car-smash at major junction

Edinburgh drivers have been warned to expect delays following a three-car-crash on the M8.

Traffic Scotland issued an alert to drivers in the capital shortly after 11am on Saturday morning (July 30) after reports of the major collision.

The crash took place at the Hermiston Gait roundabout, which connects to both the M8 and Edinburgh City Bypass, with confirmation that one lane has been blocked off as a result.

Live traffic images from the area shows long queues running eastbound at Junction 1 of the motorway, with delays said to be around 15 minutes.

An alert from Traffic Scotland read: "M8 - J1 #M8 Eastbound remains partially blocked on approach to the Hermiston Gait Roundabout due to a 3 vehicle collision.

"Lane Two (Of two) is still blocked. Traffic heavy in the area with a travel time of around 15 minutes."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.10am on Saturday, 30 July, 2022, officers were called to a report of a crash involving multiple vehicles on the M8 eastbound near to Hermiston Gait.

"Recovery was arranged for two vehicles and enquiries are ongoing."
