Edinburgh King's Theatre Sunshine on Leith shows cancelled as stars catch Covid

Bosses at King's Theatre in Edinburgh have announced the cancellation of the remainders of their shows for Sunshine on Leith due to Coronavirus.

The theatre owned by Capital Theatres took to Twitter earlier today to share the news. They said “We are absolutely devastated to announce that the remaining shows of Sunshine on Leith at the Kings Theatre this week are cancelled due to Covid-19 affecting key members of the cast.”

Actor Colin McCredie was quick to reply to the heartbreaking news, replying with “What a b***** shame."

Ticket-holders have expressed their disappointment in the cancellation of the beloved musical, with Lindsey Menzies tweeting that she was “Absolutely gutted. Bought tickets for my other half for his Christmas and we were so looking forward to Friday night. Hope all those affected get well soon.”

The musical adaptation of the hit film based on the Proclaimers top hits has been an outstanding success since its first show on June 7.

Chief Executive, Fiona Gibson, said “As co-producers of Sunshine on Leith we are all devastated that after so much work producing this fabulous heart-warming show with our friends at Pitlochry Festival Theatre it has been cancelled due to this awful pandemic. It is especially disappointing because it was our last show before the King’s closes for redevelopment. We would like to thank you for your continued support during this difficult period.”

The theatre has also explained that all tickets will be refunded to the bookers payment card. If you have any concerns about your refund, you can contact the theatre at bookings@capitaltheatres.com
