Edinburgh incident near city centre pub as fire crews seal off walkway

Fire crews scrambled to an incident near an Edinburgh city centre pub.

Crews were called to the Cannon Gait on Monday. The exact time that the alarm was raised was not confirmed by fire officers.

In images shared with Edinburgh Live, the pavement can be seen to be taped off by the emergency services as they blocked up one half of the street’s walkways. Several windows, in what is believed to be a residential block of flats, have been left wide open as firefighters below survey the area.

Three fire appliances and an ambulance were spotted responding to the incident. The exact nature of the incident was not disclosed and it is not known at this stage if anyone was injured.

It is believed the incident took place opposite The Canon’s Gait pub which is popular with tourists and locals in the city centre.

One worried resident told Edinburgh Live: “I was just walking up the Royal Mile when I noticed tape and saw three fire engines and an ambulance surrounding some flats with their windows wide open. The ambulance was empty so I assume they were inside attending to an emergency incident.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they were in attendance. They provided no further detail.
