Edinburgh images show burnt out car on city bypass after it burst into flames

Emergency services raced to the Edinburgh city bypass on Monday afternoon after a car bursts into flames.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a vehicle fire at around 4.40pm on Monday, May 22 at on the major road between Baberton and Dreghorn.

Police Scotland attended the scene to assist traffic control as the bypass was restricted for a couple of hours while emergency services attended.

The burnt-out car could be seen with its windows smashed as the lane was taped off.

No casualties were reported.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Fire crews attended a vehicle fire on the city bypass eastbound at Baberton after receiving a call at 4.41pm on Monday May 22. Two fire appliances attended and the fire was extinguished."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We were made aware of a vehicle on fire on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass shortly after 4.45pm.

"Officers attended and assisted with traffic management. No one was injured and recovery was arranged for the vehicle."
