Edinburgh hotel asks US tourist for 'second chance' after specific rant about room

Staff at a fancy Edinburgh hotel have asked a tourist for a 'second chance' after they fumed over their 'postage stamp'-sized room.

The visitor, from Michigan in the US, left an unflattering review of the Point A Hotel in Haymarket after their recent stay this July. Rating the experience at two out of five stars on TripAdivsor, the disappointed guest said the room was so small there wasn't even space to open a folding chair.

Despite this, the tourist praised the friendly staff and 'delicious breakfast'. In response to the criticism, hotel staff admitted their rooms are 'compact', but they have bigger ones too.

The feedback left on the travel review website said: "The room size was very small. There was no closet and there was not space to open your luggage and leave it open.

"A folding chair was considered extra seating, but there was no place to open it. It was over half a mile to attractions. All the above made this hotel not worth the expense.

"The staff was friendly and the breakfast was delicious and a better deal than you would find on the street."

In a reply on Trip Advisor, a member of hotel staff said: "We are very glad that you found our staff friendly. We do our best to make your stay special.

"As you mentioned, we offer a delicious continental breakfast, with a lot of choices and amazing fresh fruit that is ideal during summertime.

"We have different kinds of rooms, most of them are compact. However, we have also bigger rooms.

"The most important attractions are just within walking distance. Haymarket is a great area to visit the city. We hope that you can give us a second chance."

Point A Hotel is rated as one of the city's top 50 according to Trip Advisor, with generally positive reviews from the 575 given.
