A former Edinburgh Greggs shop could be transformed into a brand new bar and restaurant if plans are given the green light.
Located at 85-87 Rose Street, the unit has been occupied by the popular bakery chain for years, however the shop was confirmed to have closed in April 2022 when the space became available to rent.
Searching for a new commercial occupant, it seems the building could be given a new lease of life very soon, with plans now lodged to transform the space into a new eatery.

Hoping to change the use of the site with the council from a shop to a Class 3 Restaurant, a number of alterations have been detailed on both the ground and basement floors.
Ripping out the old Greggs interior, new tenants Mezcal Edinburgh have shared plans to turn the ground floor into their seating area, which will feature a brand new bar near the entrance.

A former window once blocked up by Greggs would also be introduced, with the restaurant creating an entirely new kitchen, toilets and a staff space downstairs.
The exact menu and offerings from the new potential restaurant are yet to be confirmed, with an official decision on the plans still to be granted by the council.
You can find more on the application on the planning portal.
