Edinburgh tourists and locals alike can get banged up on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile on a budget during this year’s Fringe Festival (5-29 August).
Sure, Edinburgh may be home to some of Scotland's most luxury hotels, but visitors to the capital can now stay in former prison accommodation for £21 a night during the world's biggest arts and theatre festival.

Originally designed as the Edinburgh police chambers and courthouse - and adorned with artefacts and inscriptions relating to the cases and trials that have taken placed in the historic building - The CoURT offers a wonderfully weird stay.
With contemporary yet simple décor throughout, the building’s original holding cells have been converted into a collection of 12 private double or twin 'cell' rooms (of which half are ensuite) for solo guests or two people sharing.
Alternatively, the former court rooms offer comfortable dorm-style bunkbed ‘pods’ each fitted with mood lighting, light, shelf, socket and curtain to ensure a sound night’s sleep for all.
These pod dorms vary in size with sleeping configurations ranging from 6, 8, 10, 12 or 28 guests per room. Rooms can be booked on a per bed basis or, ideal for families or groups of friends sharing, some also can be booked out privately.
Guests can also visit The Lost Close, an underground event space hosting a range of local events including whiskey and beer tastings as well as Edinburgh's first ever coffee tour.
