Following the covid-related curtailments of the last couple of years, the Fringe comes back in full to celebrate its milestone 75th anniversary.

We've recently brought you our guide to the 10 new bars and restaurants you might want to consider booking into during the Fringe and the 10 best pubs for a good pint in the capital over the next month.

Today we're taking a look at Edinburgh's food markets where you may consider taking a trip to get some top capital scran.

Here's where we recommend - Feel we've missed somewhere out? Let us know in the comments!

Stockbridge Market

National Geographic recently named the Stockbridge Market as one of the best food markets in the whole of the UK with the renowned travel magazine choosing to shine a spotlight on the Edinburgh destination for its 'delicious wares' and dozens of other attractions, making a must visit spot for locals and those travelling to our city.

The Leith street food venue was established in 2015 and has grown in popularity ever since, providing award-winning food, drinks and live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

The team the Pitt recently have now revealed their new location - in Granton.

Taking to social media, they said: "Cat’s out the bag! You’ve been waiting, asking, guessing (often accurately) and we’re delighted to announce we’re bound for Granton!"

Edinburgh Farmers' Market

At Edinburgh's original award-winning farmers market, dozens of capital businesses come together to showcase and sell their best produce to locals and tourists, each Saturday morning on Castle Terrace.

You'll find everything here from the likes of traditional mutton pies to freshly baked breads and gourmet sausage rolls.

Drawing crowds in front of the magnificent backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, the Farmers' market is well and truly back in full swing after having to strip back their offering during the covid lockdowns.

They're now open every Saturday from 9am - 2pm.

Leith Market

Described as 'a better experience than your supermarket', organisers of the Leith Market say it 'has it all' and lists no less than 'fresh meats, fish, bread, veggies, fruits, cheeses, home bakes, olives, jams, chutneys, oils, smokehouse products, soaps, lotions and potions, jewellery, artwork and lots more' among the various items you can splash your pocket money on at the weekend.

A 'foodie heaven' with something for everyone, it runs every Saturday between 10am and 4pm at Dock Place.

There's a real international flavour to the offering too - a look at the most recent lineup shows you can find the likes of Chinese Bubble Tea, Ethiopian and African street food, Spanish paella and even a French boulangerie.

The market is open every Saturday all year round from 10am - 5pm, unsurprisingly at the Grassmarket.

Festival City Market

Last month it was announced a brand new local market would arrive in Edinburgh this summer, selling everything from vintage clothes to cocktails.

Support the Makers and Seb’s Urban Jungle have launched the ‘Festival City Market’ at Edinburgh’s iconic Waverley Market with a huge array of stalls, due to run for the majority of the Festival, until August 28.

Around 70 businesses taking part and organisers have said visitors will be able to "shop, make, create, design and socialise" at the venue, which will be open each weekend from 10am-6pm.
