Edinburgh firefighters tackle blaze above local pub as two residents taken to hospital

Firefighters raced to tackle a blaze above a local pub near Ferry Road and two residents were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received dozens of calls reporting a flat fire and smoke billowing from windows on Trafalgar Street at about 13.30pm on Sunday, April 16.

Three engines including a height appliance rushed to the scene from nearby stations and evacuated the building.

A male and female casualty was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh as a precaution. Firefighters left the scene at 3.50pm.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "At around 13:28 we were called to an incident at a dwelling in a block of flats on Trafalgar Street."

They added: "Three appliances attended the scene with three pumps and one high-reach appliance from McDonald Road, Crewe Toll and Marionville Road.

"There was one male casualty and one female casualty who were both taken to hospital for precautionary checks."
