Edinburgh Zoo in Corstorphine has announced that they will be closed for the remainder of the afternoon today, Saturday 23 April 2022.
The Zoo, which is a popular day out for Edinburgh families and tourists, shared a tweet on social media saying that the business would be closed due to a power cut.
They said during their post that the Zoo team would contact those who had pre-booked a visit for this afternoon and would be rearranging for a more suitable time.
In a Tweet, Edinburgh Zoo said: “ZOO CLOSURE 23 APRIL
“Due to a power cut in the area, the zoo will be closed for the rest of the afternoon.
“We will keep everyone updated and our team will be in touch with anyone who has pre-booked to rearrange your visit”
Scottish Power have confirmed that the EH12 postcode is experiencing a power cut.
They say that there was no advance warning and that they only became aware of the issue at 1:57pm.
It is understood that they are investigating the issue and are trying to bring about a solution as promptly as possible but have warned residents and businesses in the area that it may be 4:00pm before power is restored.
In an update shared on the SP Energy Networks website, they said: “There is a power cut affecting the EH12 postcode area of Edinburgh.
“We had no advance warning of this and only became aware of it at 1.57PM. Our control centre will attempt to reset the network remotely to restore power in stages, and our emergency response team are on their way to site to investigate the fault.
“Our team will work to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible, and we expect the power to be restored by 4.00PM.
“Once they arrive, or when we receive any update regarding the cause, we will be able to provide you with more information.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”
