Edinburgh: Crane collapses and smashes into building injuring two people

Two people have been injured after a crane collapsed onto a building in Edinburgh.

The crane's arm reportedly smashed into a building that was under construction in Steads Place, Leith, around 9.30am on Tuesday.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed two ambulances and a special operations team were sent to the scene, where two patients were treated.

Leith is a port district on the shores of the Firth of Forth, to the north of Edinburgh.

Photos and footage on social media appeared to show the arm of the crane had buckled, and was left lying on top of the building, which was covered in scaffolding.

Other photos showed at least five fire engines at the scene, where two roads were temporarily shut.

"Leith Walk and Pilrig Street have now re-opened," Police Scotland Edinburgh said in an update around 2pm.

"The Health and Safety Executive have been informed and enquiries are ongoing."
