A busy Edinburgh Costa Coffee has closed suddenly with a note pinned to the door thanking customers over the years.
The café, on Haddington Place, closed down on Friday, April 28, with the sudden announcement coming as a shock to locals. The branch at Newkirkgate Shopping Centre at the foot of the walk is now the closest Costa for locals to visit.
Just days after closing, all tables and chairs inside, as well as the external signage of the café has been removed. A note taped to the door read: "Store closing: This store will be closing permanently on Friday, April 28 at 5.30pm.

"We would like to thank all of our customers who have supported us over the years. Your nearest Costa Coffee can be found at Leith Newkirkgate Shopping Centre. Thank you from all the team at Costa Haddington Place."
The reason behind the sudden closure is currently unknown. In 2021, plans for the branch at Newkirkgate Shopping Centre were drawn up, replacing the former Semichem store.
Recently, plans for a second branch within the Gyle Shopping Centre were also revealed, as well as proposals to build a huge drive-thru café near Sheriffhall on the outskirts of the city.
Costa Coffee were approached for comment.
