Police in Edinburgh are hunting feral youths who launched bricks at a police van during chaotic scenes on Bonfire Night. An investigation has been launched after the incidents in the Niddrie area of Edinburgh, which led to one officer suffering a minor cut to their lip.
Chaos in the capital saw residents ordered to stay indoors as emergency service workers dealt with numerous reports of anti-social disorder. Shocking footage of the carnage shows feral teenagers aiming fireworks at cars and emergency service vehicles.
Police have now launched an investigation into the scenes on Saturday night as they look to find those responsible for the chaos which began just before 7pm, when approximately 100 youths threw fireworks at members of the public and vehicles at Marischal Road, Edinburgh.
Later, at around 8.40pm, a police vehicle was attacked with bricks resulting in a window being smashed and the officer suffering a lip injury. Since the incidents, officers have been carrying out door-to-door and CCTV inquiries in a bid to trace those responsible.
Chief Inspector Neil Wilson said : “The actions of those responsible could have had much more serious consequences and our investigation is under-way. Officers are carrying out door to door-to door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to identify those involved.
“I would appeal to motorists who were in the Niddrie area and who may have dash-cam footage to come forward. You may have captured something that could assist our enquiries.
“I would also appeal to anyone with mobile phone footage of any of the incident to get in touch with Police Scotland as a matter of urgency on 101."
On the same night, in the Drylaw and Pilton areas of Edinburgh, further chaos ensued with fire engines attacked by thugs. A Public Order vehicle was also damaged as police officers were targeted in separate incidents.
Pictures of the aftermath on Sunday revealed the extent of the disorder as roads in the capital were blocked off. Streets in the Pilton area were closed as huge piles of hot, smoking debris lay on the road.
