An Edinburgh dad has branded a building contractor ‘disrespectful’ after they lay their building materials over a war memorial at Haymarket.
William Stewart, 29, from Broomhouse was disgusted by the behaviour of M&G real estate contractors who had used the Heart of Midlothian War Memorial to lean grey barriers, traffic cones and plastic structures against on Sunday September 11.
Images shared with Edinburgh Live show the famous clock tower memorial - which pays tribute to the players of Heart of Midlothian and their fans that fought and died in World War One and World War Two - covered in road work items.

William says that the company behind the shameful move should not have been using the memorial in this way as they have plenty of land in the area that they use for construction.
He said: “It is disrespectful. We had folk move the signs off of it but there's still construction stuff there now.
“There is no respect, and they certainly shouldn't be able to use the area when they have mass amounts of land already in use for their construction.”
M&G real estate have been behind the multi-million Haymarket development and apologised for any offence caused.
They added that as soon as they were made aware of the issue they swiftly contacted their contractors, SRM, to ensure that the issue was rectified.
In a statement, a spokesperson for M&G said: “As soon as this issue was brought to our property development partner’s attention on Monday morning they immediately instructed Haymarket Edinburgh’s contractors SRM to address the matter, and the building materials and road work items were removed within the hour.
“The materials were required for a new road crossing as part of the wider Haymarket development but had been left by an SRM sub-contractor following works over the weekend. SRM have apologised and have taken this matter up with the sub-contractor to ensure this will not happen again.”
