Edinburgh coffee shop transforms into night-time Espresso Bar for Festival Fringe

A local coffee shop will soon be transformed into Edinburgh’s first artisan Espresso Martini bar this Summer.

The Throat Punch Coffee Company is an independent coffee shop on Dalry Road. However, this year for the Festival Fringe, they will be expanding their opening hours to offer a number of coffee based cocktails to their customers.

As well as classic cocktails, they will also be offering a small number of local craft beers and wines. Cocktails and alcohol will be served on the premises between 5pm and 10pm.

The cosy coffee shop features a stunning interior with Chesterfield armchairs and a working piano, will serve their usual array of lattes in the daytime and unique coffee themed or based cocktails in the evening. Joining a cohort of niche Edinburgh cocktail bars.

The coffee house said that they got the idea after customers commented that the Cold Brew and Jamaican Ginger beer they were serving during the heatwave wave would go well with spiced rum.

This decision comes in time not just for the Festival Fringe but also for Throat Punch Coffee to celebrate their first anniversary in the capital. However, they have been trading online since 2018, selling coffee equipment and a unique coffee bean with three times more caffeine than normal coffee beans.

One of the co-founders, Alex, said: “The idea of creating Espresso Martinis with as much emphasis on the coffee as the rest has been in our heads for a while. The final piece of the puzzle, completing our coffee cocktail menu happened quite accidently though.

“We have been serving our Jamaican Blue Mountain Blend Cold Brew with Jamaican ginger beer over the heatwave and it’s been incredibly popular, but so many customers have commented how great would that go with some spiced rum!

“They helped us create one of the more unique cocktails on the menu, so we’re very excited to be able to serve it in the evenings now!”
