There is exciting news for the entertainment sector in Edinburgh with plans unveiled for a new Netflix drama to be shot in the capital.
Department Q, which will see the director of The Queen’s Gambit Scott Frank under centre, is based on a best-selling crime series by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen.
Frank wowed audiences with his adaptation of The Queen’s Gambit when it aired on Netflix in 2020, The Herald reports.

He hopes to find similar success with a story that focuses on a guilt stricken Copenhagen detective Carl Mørck who has been challenged with working in a cold case unit following his botched raid that saw a colleague paralysed and another officer killed.
Netflix have announced that the script will be penned by Chandni Lakhani who has previously worked on BBC Scotland drama the Vigil and The Dublin Murders.
Department Q will run for eight episodes and will be produced by Left Bank Pictures who are the London based creators of The Crown, Outlander and the English-language remake of Wallander.
Frank said: “The fact that I have been a fan of Jussi’s novels for a dozen years now combined with my long-standing obsession with old school British procedurals like Cracker and Prime Suspect, made this one irresistible.”
He added: “There are ten novels in all, each one is a terrific mystery with great potential for a great season of television. And Carl Mørck is one of those classic detective antiheroes, funny and dark at the same time, that I can never get enough of. I think audiences will feel the same way.”
The news of Scotland landing the gig as the set for the Scandi Noir series has led to criticism back in Jussi Adler-Olsen’s native Denmark.
Danish media have questioned why the Scottish capital got the nod ahead of locations in the Scandinavian country.
