The Statue for Elsie Inglis board of trustees have defended their decision to hire a well-known and renowned sculpture for the Elsie Inglis statue on the Royal Mile.
The board crowdfunded approximately £62,000 to date, and had opened a call to artists competition to find the best person for the job. However, the competition was suspended when Alexander Stoddart the King's Sculptor in Ordinary in Scotland accepted the commission.
“We accept that we could have communicated more clearly in recent weeks, and we apologise for this,” the board began.
