Edinburgh celebrity chef Dean Banks asked to be 'literal naked chef' at nudist BBQ

Celebrity Edinburgh chef Dean Banks has revealed he's been approached about a 'weird, but completely legit' opportunity to be a naked chef at a nudists' BBQ.

The award-winning restaurant owner behind the likes of Dean Banks at The Pompadour, new capital restaurant Dulse and Haar in St Andrews has shared an email he received in which the sender asked him to 'barbecue for two nudists', as a celebration of their anniversary.

Sharing a snapshot of the unexpected enquiry on social media, the MasterChef The Professionals finalist issued a tongue in cheek response to say he was 'tempted' by the unusual opportunity.

The email, titled 'Private Chef', said: "Hi Dean, short email just to test the water. "Would you be up for being a literal 'naked chef' at an anniversary barbecue for two nudists?

"A bit weird, but completely legit". And a number of people have been advising Dean how to respond by commenting on the chef's Tweet. One person said: "If the money is right go for it!", while another added: "Don’t burn the sausages!"

Speaking to Edinburgh Live following the email, Dean said: "This is definitely the first time I have been asked to do the old naked chef routine and sadly on this occasion I think I will have to decline as the new Mrs Banks doesn't want me taking any chances with burning sausages. However if the price is right you just never know!

"This email gave me a good laugh and I hope it does the same for everyone, that's why I Tweeted it to be honest. I very much admire the cheek too - if you don't ask you don't get!"

The unusual email comes days after we reported on Dean's new Edinburgh restaurant will take over the closed L’escargot Blanc on Queensferry Road, offering the best of Scottish seafood.

With a laid back feel, cocktail and wine bar downstairs and the upstairs restaurant, Dulse is serving a range of dishes from Scottish seafood to classic dishes modernised with eastern fusion. To find out more about Dean's latest venture, you can click here.
