This year many people will be wanting to venture outside of their city and with the summer holiday almost upon us, tourists will soon come flocking in to see the iconic Edinburgh Castle.
But you don't just have to be a tourist to visit the castle with locals loving the day out just as much as those visiting.
Not only is it worth visiting for the historical value, but the scenery too.

And if you're on time, the gun is fired every day at 1pm except on Sundays, Good Friday and Christmas Day.
Edinburgh Castle recommends that people should set aside two hours to see the main attractions.
So if you want to visit the castle this year, what should you know?
Edinburgh castle opening times 2022
From April 1 until September 30, the opening times are from 9:30am until 6pm with last entry being 5pm.
From October 1 until March 31, opening hours are from 9:30am until 5pm with last entry being 4pm.
The castle is closed on 25 and 26 December.
The castle will close early on the following dates to accommodate the Tattoo and additional performances:
- August 6
- August 13
- August 20
- August 26
- 27 August
Last entry will be 3.30pm and the castle will close at 5pm.

Tickets to visit the castle vary with £1 tickets being advertised for children and adults with a Young Scots card which can be bought here.
