Edinburgh Castle closes to public following the death of Queen Elizabeth II

Edinburgh Castle has announced it will be closed to the public following the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

The Edinburgh landmark will be closed on Friday, September 9, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away at Balmoral at the age of 96 on Thursday.

In an urgent update to visitors on Thursday evening, Historic Scotland explained that the castle would be closed while "ceremonial activities" are taking place.
