Edinburgh bar up for sale after owner caught with £110,000 worth of cannabis

An Edinburgh bar is up for sale after the owner was caught with £110,000 worth of cannabis.

The Daiquiri is situated in the city centre on Morrisons Street, amongst an abundance of bars and restaurants. Although it only opened in December 2021, the bar is now up for sale for £95,000.

The bar offers a tasty menu and the advert adds that it is an a prime trading spot opposite the EICC as well as being in the 'midst of the financial district'.

The premises offers a commercial kitchen in the basement and the interior was fully refurbished in 2021 and is in 'walk-in' condition. They are looking for a more 'hands on' owner while adding that the business had worked hard to gain a significant social media following.

On RightBiz it reads: "The Daiquiri has been in our clients hands since 2021. During which time our clients have worked hard to reposition the business as a well-regarded and well patronised cocktail bar now offering food.

"Our clients have spent liberally since acquiring The Daiquiri. Fully renovating the interior, using dark tones and neon, the renovated site is very popular cross demographically and has a significant social media following. The site is now offered in walk in condition for new buyers.

"Our clients run the business under management as they work full time out with the business, we strongly feel more hands on ownership of the business will help develop turnover and profitability further. Our clients have also invested heavily to promote their business via social media and this activity online has proved very successful in driving custom to the business, as well as engagement with the business on social media."

This comes as owner Callum Woods was caught in police chase in April 2022 while in possession with around £110,000 worth of cannabis. While fleeing the cops, he collided with another car and was flipped upside down.

As Edinburgh Live reported previously, Woods, who opened The Daiquiri bar in the capital, claimed he was compelled to take part in drug dealing by gangsters. He said thugs targeted his new business in an extortion campaign, first demanding cash then his assistance in their trafficking operation.

Woods appeared at the city’s sheriff court on Tuesday and pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of drugs and dangerous driving.

After the police tried a "boxing-in manoeuvre” at the Newcraighall roundabout, the van struck a car which flipped over and landed in a field.

Defence agent Richard Freeman said that Woods had been approached by crooks who wanted him to carry out money laundering, which he “resisted”.

The gangsters “threatened him with extreme violence” and demanded £10,000-a-week from Woods in a “protection racket”, Mr Freeman added.

He said Woods was “extremely frightened” and handed over £4000 before going into hiding to avoid the criminals’ phone calls and threats. The gangsters then “changed tacked” when Woods returned and demanded he involve himself with drug dealing instead, the court was told.

Sheriff John Mundy deferred sentence on Woods, of the city’s Duddingston area, until next month for reports.

The court was told the Crown would be making a proceeds of crime seizure application against Woods.
