Edinburgh bar and restaurant to close before Christmas as staff find new jobs

An Edinburgh bar and restaurant has made the heartbreaking decision to close their business.

Philly’s which is located in the heart of South Gyle’s industrial estate had cut back on their opening hours earlier this year but has made the call to close their doors for good after securing employment for their staff at other hospitality venues across the capital and Fife.

They shared a post on Facebook on Friday, November 18 and apologised to any customers who may have had a booking in the near future.

The decision to close was not expected to come so soon and Philly’s say it was not an easy one but that they had to act when they managed to achieve redeployment for staff members.

Philly’s will have a last hurrah today as they welcome punters for a day filled with rugby entertainment.

In a post on their social media, they said: “It’s the news we never wanted to have to share....

“Philly's is closing!!

“The decision to close the business was not an easy one, and the closing date was fast-tracked when an unexpected opportunity came up to secure redeployment for our staff at other suitable hospitality businesses in Edinburgh and Fife - but only if they were able to start work there immediately.

“My primary concern has always been to secure future employment for my staff, and as a result when this opportunity arose, I had to take advantage of it which meant the immediate closure of the business.

“Any customers who have a future table reservation will have been contacted (or if we were unable to contact someone, we will continue to try to reach out to all).

“This is a very sad day for the management and staff of Philly’s, and we want to thank all our customers, especially our regulars, for your custom and support over the last few years.

“Last but definitely not least, I want to express my biggest gratitude to my staff and management team who have been with me on this wonderful journey. It’s been a rollercoaster ride at times but it’s been a real joy working with you all.

“We will be going out on a high so join us on Saturday 19 for rugby and laughs!!

“If anyone has any queries, please get in touch via email on hello@phillysedinburgh.com
