Edinburgh author Irvine Welsh slams Lothian bus route in side-splitting Twitter rant

Edinburgh author Irvine Welsh has slammed a Lothian bus route in a hilarious Twitter rant asking if the person drawing up the route was "on acid."

The writer took to Twitter this afternoon after "circling" the Tollcross and Haymarket areas of the city "all day" in an attempt to get from Princes Street to Clermiston.

Many bus routes have been diverted due to the large volume of roadworks and tramworks across the city.

The Trainspotting author wrote: "Trying to deduce what the f*** is going on with the No 1 bus in Edinburgh from Princes St to Clerie.

"The c*** drawing up the route must have been on acid. I’ve nothing against the Tollcross and Haymarket districts of the inner city, just didn’t expect to be circling them all day."

The number one bus usually travels from Clermiston to Seafield going through Princes Street to get there.

Others agreed with the Scottish writer as the tweet was liked over 100 times with dozens of comments.

While @Richard76257233 joked: "Driving in Edinburgh right now is crazy, it's like those moving staircases in Hogwarts, every day you need a different route."

@benotti69 added "Bus driver has Welsh on his bus and is think, i'll give him a magical mystery tour!"
