Edinburgh author Irvine Welsh hits out at Scottish Tories for Trainspotting joke

Edinburgh author Irvine Welsh has hit out at the Scottish Conservatives after they used an iconic Trainspotting poster in an attempt to gain votes.

The Tories' take on the 'Choose Life' poster, originally used to advertise the classic 1996 film, included Conservative policies and digs at the BBC ahead of the upcoming election.

The Edinburgh author took to Twitter on Monday evening to bluntly respond to the Tories, writing: "Get f***** you c****."

The "speech" read: "Choose chopping up school doors. Choose ferries with painted on windows that don't even float. Choose the 'Saudi Arabia' of renewables. Choose blaming the TOAAARIES.

"Choose Humza. Choose an investment banker pretending to be a 'humble crofter.' Choose ships built in Eastern Europe. Choose a car park tax.

"Choose named persons. Choose the Hate Crime Bill. Choose the worst drug deaths in Europe. Choose decriminalising heroin.

"Choose millions wasted on BIFab, Ferguson Marine and more. Choose state secrecy.

"Choose division. Choose nationalism. Choose flags. Choose more flags. Choose a hard border with your neighbours. Choose pensions paid for by tax payers in a country you want to leave.

"Choose a £12 billion deficit on day one. Choose a country stuck endlessly, going over the same arguments we had in 2014."

Surprisingly the out of touch tweet was not a joke, being posted from the official Scottish Conservative twitter account.

Thousands agreed with the Trainspotting author with Welsh's quote tweet gathering thousands of shares and over 15,000 likes.

With many Scots taken aback by the Tories odd campaign strategy using the iconic speech to slam the SNP.

Jack Monroe said: "The f****** AUDACITY MY GOD."

Teejay added: "To try to buy votes with Trainspotting references says every about the Tories. They still have no clue.

While Jennifer Alexander said: "Get these absolute Tools telt!!!"
