Edinburgh author Irvine Welsh dedicates new book to 'inspiring' Bradley Welsh

Edinburgh author Irvine Welsh has dedicated his latest novel to close friend Bradley Welsh after his death in 2019.

The Trainspotting creator shared that his latest book, The Long Knives, was written as a tribute to the T2 star after they had stayed friends for over three decades.

Bradley Welsh, 48, was shot outside his Edinburgh home in April 2019, and was known for his work across the city as well as running the Holyrood Boxing Gym.

Both boxing and Hibs fans, Irvine wrote how Bradley is "every day missed", adding:

"This book is dedicated to the vivid and immortal spirit of Bradley John Welsh. Every day missed, every moment inspiring.”

In 2021, Sean Orman, 31 was jailed the murder of Bradley Welsh following a 12 day trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

A jury had found Orman guilty of shooting the 48-year-old on his front door step after he had returned to his New Town home from his boxing gym.

With Irvine Welsh's dedication and new novel set to be released in August, the writer said his death and that of two other pals, the singer Jake Black and record producer Andrew Weatherall, had left him unable to write for a long time, reports the Record.

He added: “However, I know with great confidence how all three of them would disdain that as nonsense, so I’m happy to be back in the fiction arena again.
