Edinburgh Airport looking to fill security jobs that can pay up to £29k

Edinburgh Airport has announced that it is "recruiting a number of positions" in security ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer season.

The airport is looking to hire security staff on a 40-hour per week permanent contract, with a basic salary of £22,300 per annum — though this could rise to as much as £29,000 including shift allowance.

According to Edinburgh Airport, start and end times will vary between shifts, and could start as early as 3.30am or finish as late as midnight.

In addition, applicants should expect to work some weekends as well as bank and public holidays, with shifts varying in length between four and 12 hours.

Tasks will include screening all people and vehicles passing through restricted areas using archway detectors and manual body searching when necessary, operating x-ray equipment to screen luggage and other items, and manually searching luggage for prohibited items.

Additionally, successful applicants will be expected to check identification or travel documents for all passengers, staff and airport users, and patrol the terminal and outside areas to ensure that the airport is secure.

No previous experience in working in a security environment is required as full training will be provided, but "experience in working in a front-line customer service type role is desirable".

Applicants must also be able to learn and follow set procedures, be over the age of 18 years, and be able to be cleared in accordance with CAA regulations — which includes providing a satisfactory five-year reference history and EAL being able to undertake a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Counter Terrorist Check.

The job description states: "Our Security team is dedicated and highly trained and we support thousands of people coming through the airport every day.

"The team is responsible for keeping all of our passengers and staff safe in the terminal and for their onward journeys."

It continues: "Taking on one of the most vital roles in the airport, you will ensure that all passengers have a safe and enjoyable experience.

"You might be the first or only person our passengers meet on their journey through the airport, and we strive to provide excellent customer service at every stage."

Benefits offered by the airport include 32 days annual leave, access to free onsite Occupational Health, Physiotherapy and Podiatrist services, discounted shopping in the various retail and catering outlets within the Terminal, and free on-site staff car parking.

Sharing the news to its Facebook account, Edinburgh Airport wrote: "Is your career ready for take-off? Starting out in security could take you to heights you’d never imagined."
