Edinburgh Airport issues update over security waiting times during peak holiday season

Edinburgh Airport has issued an update regarding their security waiting times.

Across the UK, airports are feeling the pressure as a surge of customers jet off on holiday after the pandemic put a stop to many getaways.

Due to staffing issues, airlines and airports have struggled with the amount of passengers with reports showing long queues at check-in and security.

Queues in some airports were so long that people ended up missing their flights.

Edinburgh Airport's website shows a 'wait time' tracker for security and the airport is now going to give regularly updates via their social media pages.

The airport released a statement on Thursday. It read: "From tomorrow we'll be sharing regular security queue times on our social media channels.

"Updates at 5am, 9am, 1pm and 5pm will measure how long it takes for someone at the back of the queue to complete the security process.

"This is different to the tracker which appears on our website - this measures the queue time inside the security hall once passengers have passed through the e-gate."

They add: "It's important to note that while the information is accurate at the time of posting, queue times can change quickly. Best use the information as a guide.

"One thing to keep in mind is that these queue times are for security only and not for check-in or passport control. The check-in desks are operated by airlines and their handling agents, while passport control is looked after by UK Border Force. Any queues here are totally separate to security."
