Edinburgh Airport issues advice to people dropping off friends and family

Edinburgh Airport has issued new advice to those dropping off their loved ones for a holiday.

With Scots around the country getting ready to jet off for some summer sun over the next few months, there will be a lot of people making use of the airport's car parks and and drop-off zones.

These services cost money, however, which households on a budget may not be willing to spend amid the worsening cost of living crisis.

For those who want to drop off their friends and family for free, Edinburgh Airport has revealed that there is an alternative.

According to the airport, the free option can be found at its long stay car park, where you are able park for a full 30 minutes with no charge.

While the shuttle bus between the long stay car park and the terminal is not currently in operation, a new walking route between the two has been established.

The airport has stated that passengers who make use of this option should allow for around 10 minutes to get themselves from the car to the check-in desk.

Edinburgh Airport states on its website: "The car park is barrier operated, and you'll need to take a ticket before it lifts up and allows you in.

"There's no fee for the first 30 minutes and that should give you plenty of time to pick up or drop off, but please note if you do go over that time then there will be a charge on your departure."

The airport shared a map of where the free drop off zone at the long-stay car park is (Edinburgh Airport)

For those looking to drop people off right outside the terminal, the airport also operates a charged drop-off on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park.

For people with a Blue Badge, Edinburgh Airport added: "Vehicles carrying passengers with Blue Badges can spend one hour in any of our car parks, including drop-off and pick-up, without charge.

"Simply take your ticket, and blue badge, to the customer services office on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park and they'll validate it for use on your exit."
