Flights leaving Edinburgh Airport have been disrupted after a drone was spotted illegally flying in the vicinity.
Police were called to the scene around 11am today, with at least one flight delayed due to aerial vehicle zooming in the area, reports Edinburgh Live.
A British Airways flight to London due to depart at 11.10am was halted due to the incident. Officers have been spotted scouring the streets surrounding the airport to trace the operator of the drone.
Although the airport schedule was disrupted, the drone was not within the site's perimeter. Flights are now departing as normal.
One passenger on the delayed BA flight to London said: "I am currently sitting on the BA1451 and the pilots have told us that Edinburgh is on a ground stop due to a drone at the departure end of the runway."
He continued: "The drone is not on the runway but apparently just off the departure end. The drone alert system installed in the tower picked it up. Apparently, the police are out looking for the operator but until they find the person or the drone goes away we cannot depart."
An Edinburgh Airport spokesperson said: "Operations were suspended for a short period of time due to a drone outwith the airport campus. This has been resolved and flights resumed within twenty minutes."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.40am on Tuesday, 21 February, 2023, officers at Edinburgh Airport were made aware of a drone flying near the perimeter. There was no risk to the public and enquiries have concluded. Suitable advice was provided.”
