Passengers on the British Airways flight to London that should have departed at 11.10am were told it had been halted due to a drone near the runway.
Officers from Police Scotland are reportedly on the streets nearby searching for the operator of the drone that was caught on the drone alert system.
One passenger on the delayed BA flight to London told Edinburgh Live: "I am currently sitting on the BA1451 and the pilots have told us that Edinburgh is on a ground stop due to a drone at the departure end of the runway."
He continued: "The drone is not on the runway but apparently just off the departure end. The drone alert system installed in the tower picked it up.
"Apparently, the police are out looking for the operator but until they find the person or the drone goes away we cannot depart."
