All the fuss with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the 2023 NFL draft has been about the role of linebacker Nick Herbig. Herbig is convinced he is more than capable of playing outside linebacker at 240 pounds and he might be right but there’s a chance he might not need to anytime soon.
The Steelers brought back edge Quincy Roche this offseason and he could end up the secret weapon if Herbig isn’t ready or the team doesn’t add a veteran edge rusher in the last rounds of free agency.
Roche was originally a sixth-round pick of the Steelers in 2021. However to everyone’s surprise Roche didn’t make it through the final rounds of cuts and ended up with the Giants. Roche has 2.5 sacks in 2021 but spent all of 2022 on the Giants practice squad.
Pittsburgh could still end up bringing in a veteran to compete but if they don’t, a combination of Herbig and Roche might be enough to get the Steelers edge rusher depth in order.
