An energy provider has confirmed that bills will rise by an average of £693 a year from April - affection two million people.
EDF will raise its rates in line with the new energy price cap, meaning that people on standard variable tariffs will see their bills skyrocket from the spring.
Earlier this month, regulator Ofgem gave energy companies the green light to increase the maximum rate on variable tariffs by 54%.
