Eddie McCreadie: Chelsea's £5,000 full-back who became cup final scorer and manager

There was little fanfare when Eddie McCreadie first arrived at Stamford Bridge from East Stirlingshire in 1962 - but manager Tommy Docherty had seen enough on a scouting mission to Scotland to put his faith in a player he later hailed as as the best left-back in Europe.

The combative, attacking style of Glasgow-born McCreadie, who has died aged 85, caught the eye of the then Blues boss, who had headed north of the border to take a look at another potential new recruit.
