Eddie Howe reacts to talk of Newcastle United's Saudi-inspired away shirt

Eddie Howe has indicated he had no say in controversial plans of Newcastle United's change kit next season - after a Castore kit in the style of a Saudi Arabia shirt was leaked last week.

The shirt attracted widespread criticism and questions about the separation between the Saudi state and PIF. But Howe has distanced himself from any selection call for the shirts.

Newcastle or Castore had previously commented on the record about the shirt, leaving Howe to answer questions on it at his Press conference ahead of the final game of the season against Burnley.

Howe said: "I'm aware of the criticisms. I think from my perspective it's not something I've had any control over.

"We were very aware when we went to Saudi Arabia that the interest in Newcastle is huge. I know I'm making an assumption here but our kit manufacturers have probably acknowledged that and hence why we've ended up where we are."

Newcastle or Castore did not react with a comment when approached last week. The new jerseys will be confirmed in July.
