Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe insists Jack Grealish's controversial Miguel Almiron comments aren't the reason for the winger's fine form in front of goal this season. The Magpies star netted the only goal of the 1-0 win over Everton on Wednesday to make it five goals for the season in the Premier League.
Grealish sparked controversy during Manchester City's title parade last season, taking an unprovoked potshot at Almiron. Since then, the St James' Park favourite has outscored and outperformed the England star, much to the amusement of Newcastle supporters.
However, when quizzed on the issue following the 1-0 win, Howe played down the Grealish comment and instead claimed Almiron's motivation of late is simply impressing the Newcastle fanbase. “I don’t think Miggy is motivated by anything other than trying to be his best for Newcastle and for the supporters, who absolutely love him and rightly so," he told reporters.

“For me, he’s given me everything from day one, very committed to the team. He’s a real team player and he’s getting the recognition that he deserves. You can’t under-estimate the quality of the goals that he’s delivered for us.
“I don’t think I’ve noticed a difference in his character. He’s been very consistent – that’s a strength – he’s been very happy every day, very pleased to be part of the team, has very close friends within the squad.
“What I have noticed is a real confidence in his training, in his technical delivery of what we’re asking him to do – I think that’s definitely gone up a level.”
Almiron has found the net against Manchester City, Brentford, Fulham and Everton so far this term, and is fast becoming one of the first names on the team sheet on Tyneside. Speaking after his match-winner this week, Almiron said: “I am feeling very good because of the moment of the team and the momentum. I want to keep working hard to be in the same way.
"I think the confidence that the manager has given to me, I try to improve in every session. I have to thank my colleagues as they help me every day.”
