Eddie Howe has reflected on Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester United after taking the time to watch the encounter back and hold team meetings.
Howe must now lift his troops for a trip to Man City at the Etihad Stadium and knows it will be a tough encounter at a tricky time in the aftermath of Wembley.
The Newcastle boss is confident that his squad have washed away most of the disappointment of Wembley. Howe said at his press conference: “We were bruised on Sunday and Monday.
“But very quickly for me on Monday afternoon it turned to Man City. For me it turned back to work and now the passion and motivation has only increased. It was a great occasion, the colours and passion of the fans, the love they showed to the team.

“That will all stay with me. You want to give them future successes. That will burn deep inside.”
Howe admitted that the season is reaching crunch time. He added: “It is a difficult run of games for us, Liverpool to Man United to Man City. We didn’t get the results we wanted but generally the performances have been strong.
"In between both boxes at Wembley we were very good. A lot of elements were really strong but ultimately that’s where we fell down.”
And reflecting on the mood in the squad after Sunday, Howe added: “The local lads won’t, but one or two of newer players will have seen things for sure that will stay with them.”
