Eddie Howe hints at Tottenham changes despite finding Newcastle United 'balance'

Eddie Howe may make changes to his Newcastle United side ahead of the trip to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend after two gruelling fixtures in a matter of days. The Magpies have taken four points from Manchester United and Everton in little over of 72 hours but faced two gruelling clashes in the process.

Howe named an unchanged line up for the Toffees win on Wednesday despite a host of players picking up bumps and bruises at Old Trafford on Sunday. The question now is what the Newcastle boss does in the capital this weekend given his team continue to pick up results both at home and on the road.

Quizzed over his potential team selection for the Spurs clash, Howe admitted changes could be on the horizon despite the performances of his unchanged side in recent days.

"There could be changes. I always try to assess the squad and see where they are physically and whether they can give their best effort in the game," he told reporters.

"I felt tonight we could. It was our second game [in a few days] but we had an eight-day gap between the last game. I felt the lads could physically deliver what we needed them to deliver.

"When you're in a good moment you're reluctant to unbalance the team. The balance has been good so I've been very pleased with the dynamics of how the team has worked. Every game is different and we'll prepare for Tottenham in that way."

Howe will still be without key men Alexander Isak and Allan Saint-Maximin for the Spurs clash but has recently welcomed Jonjo Shelvey to his matchday squads. Elliot Anderson, Ryan Fraser, Joe Willock and Matt Targett could all argubaly be reintroduced into the starting XI in the capital on Sunday.
