Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe does not expect a major squad overhaul at St James' Park this summer - but admits that "smart decisions" must be made in the transfer window.
Howe's side look destined for Europe, and can close in on the Champions League places in the next few days with big games against Everton then Southampton to come. The prospect of dining at Europe's top table has led some pundits, including club legend Chris Waddle, to suggest improvements would have to be made if they finish in the top three or four.
As reported by Chronicle Live this week, Howe wants to retain the identity of his squad next season. Indeed Howe underlined how important number 9 Callum Wilson is in the build-up to the trip to Everton.

When asked about the "moneybags" tag Newcastle Newcastle are said: "You can't control what people say. You can't control the narrative.
"All you can do is do the best work you can. If people on the outside of this room want to control a certain theme, that's up to them.
"But I think as long as the important people know how we're working and what we're doing and how we have worked, that's all that matters to me."
Howe also spoke of retaining the identity of the squad with Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock, Fabian Schar, Joelinton and Jacob Murphy a huge part of the Champions League push, and all players who the head coach inherited.
Howe said: "An overhaul in the squad is very difficult to do. It's almost impossible in this day and age with the prices of the players.
"We don't have an unlimited budget and we'll have to be very smart with what we do. FFP will still be there and forcing us to work in a certain way.
"We have to make smart decisions. We have to bring in the right players not just any, and certainly the majority of the squad here that have performed well deserve to be part of our future as well."
