Eddie Hearn told to fight Jake Paul after claiming YouTube star is "average" boxer

Eddie Hearn has been told he should fight Jake Paul in a "mega banger" after criticising his boxing career during a face-off last week.

Hearn co-promoted the undisputed female title fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano with Paul last weekend in New York. The pair discussed staging a fight during a face-off during the media proceedings, with Hearn admitting he would need $10million to meet Paul in the ring.

And former UFC champion Henry Cejudo believes Hearn should step in the ring to back up his criticism of Paul's short boxing career. "Even though [Eddie Hearn's] right, he's never laced up the gloves, and that kind of bothers me a little bit," Cejudo said during the latest edition of The Triple C and Schmo Show. "Because I think he should, I think if he has a lot to say like that, okay, well then, fight. Well, why don't you?

"If Jake Paul is not that good, why don't you lace up the gloves? Since you've been in the game for such a long time. You know the best of the best. Why don't you lace up the gloves and why don't you fight Jake Paul? And I think that fight itself would be a mega banger."

Hearn and Paul were pictured ringside watching the historic fight together and shook hands after Taylor was awarded a split-decision victory over Serrano. The pair had also made a $1m wager on the fight at a press conference earlier in the week, but Paul now has to spar an opponent of Hearn's choice in a new agreed price after the defeat.

The Matchroom Boxing kingpin first staged Paul's professional debut against AnEson Gib earlier in his career. Paul has since gone on to win another four professional fights against the likes of former UFC stars Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren.

However the pair held a heated debate when they were sat-down during a face-off, with Hearn branding the YouTube star an average fighter while criticising his current resume. Hearn started: "I would have said no chance he would be where he is at in his boxing career. I didn't know if he had any ability, he fought AnEson Gib who was terrible on the night and Jake looked pretty average as well as it was two YouTubers."

Paul quickly fired back: "Don't start this off like that. I beat him in one minute. How do you assess how good I am? You called me average after one minute of my fight? Hearn explained: "You are average, no but you are still average. You beat a UFC champion, it is true I don't know where you might go yet but I am entitled to my opinion as to where I think you will go. Paul quickly stepped in and finished: "You don't know my ability?"
