Eddie Hearn provides update on Anthony Joshua's search for new trainer

Anthony Joshua is "still going through things" as he searches for a new training set-up for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

That's according to his promoter Eddie Hearn, who maintains that once Joshua has officially entered camp for the Usyk fight he will announce his new trainer.

The situation regarding Joshua's contractually obligated rematch for the unified world heavyweight titles has been complicated this week by an offer from the Middle East for Usyk to fight Tyson Fury and become undisputed.

But Joshua is still focusing on a rematch with Usyk, and looks set to split from long-time trainer Rob McCracken for his second bout with the Ukrainian.

He and McCracken won the unified world titles twice together in his professional career, and they also worked together when Joshua won Olympic gold at the 2012 London games.

However, after a disastrous showing in his first bout with Usyk, Joshua has said he plans to change things up for what could be a make or break fight.

"He's still going through certain things," Hearn told Mirror Fighting yesterday when asked about Joshua's search for a new trainer. "I feel that is really something that AJ should make people aware of.

"He will when camp starts, it's not really for me to say and I'm sure those guys will make an announcement when he starts camp."

The two-time former world champion was training with Floyd Mayweather Jr in Dubai while working under Anthony Wilson last month.

Joining him at Binous Gym in Dubai were Chris Eubank Jr, who fights Liam Williams in Cardiff next month and cruiserweight world champion Lawrence Okolie.

Earlier in the year, he spent time in America with the likes of Eddy Reynoso, Ronnie Shields, Virgil Hunter and Robert Garcia.

McCracken, as well as the rest of Joshua's corner, came in for criticism when recordings of their advice between rounds became public, with one coach telling him his boxing was "brilliant" as he was losing rounds.

It remains to be seen when exactly the rematch will take place, with Fury's promoter Bob Arum branding the situation around a possible undisputed fight as "chaos".

"It'll be the end of April but it could even be early May," Hearn said at a press conference in Belfast yesterday. "It doesn't matter, April or May, those guys are only going to fight once or twice this year."

And while there have been reports of an April 23 date for the Usyk rematch, with Joshua still tightening up his new training set-up, it's possible he will want a later date.

Fury would also need to sort out a deal with Dillian Whyte, his mandatory challenger, for the undisputed fight to take place next, which Hearn believes is highly unlikely.

"Right now, I still think the favourite is the two fights," Hearn added. "But we'll see what happens.

"It's all very complicated, and that's why it's taking such a long time and sometimes it will go quiet and then resurface."
