Eddie Hearn has named his dream 5v5 battle between Matchroom Boxing and Oscar De La Hoya’s boxing promotion, Golden Boy.
Eddie Hearn Picks Matchroom Boxing vs Golden Boy 5v5
The English boxing promoter has selected his lineup for a potential 5v5 battle between Matchroom Boxing and Oscar De La Hoya’s promotion, Golden Boy.
Hearn was thrashed 5-0 in his last face off, against Frank Warren and Queensbury, despite Matchroom being the favourite on UK betting sites, but is confident that his side would make easy work of De La Hoya’s group.
This comes after the 1992 Olympic gold medalist was interviewed on Dazn and seemed confident that Golden Boy Promotion would be victorious.
When asked if a potentional 5v5 could happen, De La Hoya said (Via Dazn): “Yeah I mean I wish, I hope so. I would love too, he (Eddie Hearn) is what 0-17, 0-24 now – yeah why not?”
Eddie Hearn responded to the call-out on Twitter, with his lineup and feels it would be ‘easy work’ for Matchroom Boxing.
📋 Eddie Hearn has named the fights he'd want for a 5 vs 5 against Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy:
🥊 Jaron 'Boots' Ennis vs Ryan Garcia
🥊 Shakur Stevenson vs William Zepeda
🥊 Israil Madrimov vs Vergil Ortiz
🥊 Jai Opetaia vs Gilberto Ramirez
🥊 Jack Catterall vs Jose Ramirez— Michael Benson (@MichaelBensonn) November 6, 2024
Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis vs Ryan Garcia
One of the best 147-pound fighters on the planet right now, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, is set to headline on Saturday 9th November against Karen Chukhadzhian, as he defends the IBF World Welterweight Title in a rematch.
Should he win this fight then Hearn identified Golden Boy’s Ryan Garcia as a potential opponent, with the boxing star set to return to boxing in April 2025 after a drug suspension.
In Garcia’s last bout he put on a stunning display against Devin Haney, dropping his opponent several times – however the fight has been deemed a no contest due to Garcia testing positive for Ostarine.
Shakur Stevenson vs William Zepeda
Shakur Stevenson was the next fighter selected to represent Matchroom Boxing, with the 27-year-old yet to lose a fight in professional boxing.
He currently boasts a 22-0 record and defended his WBC World Lightweight title against Artem Harutyunyan last time out.
Hearn selected William Zepeda for Golden Boy as a possible opponent, who is also undefeated with a 31-0 record and the WBC has ordered that the two face off after Shakur Stevenson’s successful surgery.
Israil Madrimov vs Vergil Ortiz
Israil Madrimov is set to take on Serhii Bohadchuk on the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk II card in December which is a difficult match up for Madrimov.
Ortiz already boasts a victory over Bohadchuk and has not been handed a fight since winning by decision in August tot take his record to 22-0.
This highlights how the possible 5v5 card between Matchroom and Golden Boy is far from confirmed, as a lot of fighters have to tough match-ups beforehand.
Jai Opetaia vs Gilberto Ramirez
Gilberto Ramirez goes head-to-head with Chris Billiam Smith on November 16th, which is a difficult fight to call given the ability of both boxers.
However, if Ramirez manages to clinch a victory in that bout then it sets up a fight with Matchroom’s Jai Opetaia on this 5v5 card.
Opetaia is currently 26-0 and is coming off a huge TKO victory over Jack Massey in October to defend his IBF Cruiserweight belt for the first time.
Jack Catterall vs Jose Ramirez
The final bout that was selected by Eddie Hearn is Jack Catterall vs Jose Ramirez, with Catterall coming off a UD victory over Regis Prograis in October.
Jose Ramirez, under the Golden Boy promotion, fought his first fight under Oscar De La Hoya in April this year and earned a UD victory over Rances Barthelemy to take his record to 29-1.
