Ed Sheeran teases long-term 'residency' in Suffolk near his £3.7m mega-mansion

Ed Sheeran has revealed he’d like to have a long-running residency in Suffolk so he can spend more time with his family.

The Thinking Out Loud singer famously built his own sprawling estate near Framlingham affectionately dubbed “Sheeranville”.

He has added a pub, tree house, pool and cinema and most recently a £1 million “man cave” to the compound.

And Sheeran has now revealed he wants to build a state-of-the-art music venue in Ipswich near the mega-mansion so he can play shows long-term in his home county instead of going on world tours.

The 34-year-old said it’ll help him pack in more quality time with his wife Cherry Seaborn, 33, and their daughters Lyra, five, and Jupiter, three, who start school next year.

“I wrote down a list the other day of things that matter to me and one is my family, one is songwriting, one is doing shows,” he told The Sun.

Sheeran explained: “If I can get to a point where I'm playing shows, writing songs and hanging out with my family, then you can cut the noise out around that, however that noise might present itself.

“I looked into the idea of building a venue in my hometown and doing a residency there. That then cuts out the travel and being away from my family.”

He added that he has built a studio nearby where he can make music and practice.

Sheeran did not specify where he would build his own venue, however he has a 1.4 per cent minority stake in his childhood football club Ipswich Town, whose ground Portman Road can hold 30,000 people.

The club announced on Wednesday that they are planning a major management restructure which will help boost their earnings, The Sun reported.

Its no surprise the Shape Of You singer wants to spend more time at home as he recently completed his Mathematics tour - which saw him play 188 shows across five continents from April 2022 to September of this year.

The sold-out tour grossed £655.8 million, while his Divide tour between 2017 and 2019 made £581.3 million.

However, Sheeran did recently hint that he will go on tour one last time with his chart-topping latest album Play.

“I’ve got one more big tour in me before settling down for school years,” he said on the Awards Chatter podcast.

Sheeran has become as well-known for his property ventures as for his music. Over the past decade, he has quietly built up an extensive real estate portfolio worth millions, spanning London and beyond.

As well as several flats in Covent Garden, he reportedly owns a fisherman’s cottage in Dungeness, Kent, and multiple properties in Suffolk, including his main estate.

Last month, it was reported that he has also bought two homes in a picturesque seaside village in his home county.

He is said to be in the process of merging the two terraces into one large family home, with plans for at least five bedrooms, a huge open-plan kitchen and generous living areas.

“Ed is going to spend a fair amount of time in America for work soon, but his heart is always in Suffolk. He’s created a gorgeous home for his wife Cherry and their two children, and now he’s creating a beachfront paradise for them,” a source told The Sun.

The insider added that the new project will be designed to blend in with the surrounding area: “He is going to make sure it’s totally in keeping with the local landscape and wants it to become their home-from-home by the sea.”

Bill Nighy and broadcaster Emma Freud are among those who already have homes along the Suffolk coastline.
