Northern Irish guitar maker Lowden is going global with its line of Ed Sheeran signature guitars, partnering with Amazon to finally make the brand available via the retail giant. Rather than create an expensive signature guitar, Ed and Lowden opted to develop a whole range of keenly priced acoustics that will encourage a new generation of singer-songwriters.
We’ve had a look at the range and the Sheeran by Lowden W01 looks like the perfect acoustic guitar for beginners with its mahogany neck, cedar top, and walnut back and sides. It’s available for just $683 and the small body size will make it perfect for younger guitar players. At the other end of the scale, the ‘Mathematics’ tour edition is the same guitar that Ed uses for his live show with its unique inlays, solid Sitka spruce top, and LR Baggs EAS VTC pickup system - all for just $1,043.
Ed Sheeran has been playing Lowden guitars for a while now, making the switch from Martin to the Northern Ireland-based brand. After being given a Lowden guitar by Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol fame, Lowden began making Ed’s tour guitars for him. This led to a close relationship between the two, resulting in the launch of Sheeran by Lowden.
After attending an Amazon Global Selling Workshop, Lowden began their global expansion by selling limited quantities of guitars in Australia alongside Ed touring there, which proved to be an instant hit. Following this blueprint, they’ve improved their manufacturing massively using aerospace engineering techniques and shipped hundreds of guitars to the US in time for the launch of Sheeran’s latest North American tour.
The full range features everything from 3/4 acoustic guitars right through to big-body, gigging-ready acoustic-electric guitars that will hit the spot for touring players. On display are a raft of quality materials with solid tops, excellent electronics, and top-class build quality, making it an enticing proposition for beginner and veteran players alike.
