Ed Sheeran's Cat Cafe Performance in Japan Met with Resistance

Ed Sheeran singing

In a recent video shared on Instagram, British singer Ed Sheeran found himself facing a tough crowd at a cat cafe in Japan. This amusing encounter took place at the same cafe where he had performed for a group of uninterested felines back in 2014. In the video, Sheeran can be seen surrounded by several cats as he begins to strum his acoustic guitar. However, much to his amusement, as soon as he starts playing, most of the cats scatter, abandoning their food in an attempt to escape the music.

Captioning the video, Sheeran playfully expressed his lack of success in winning over the same kitties that had run away from him seven years ago. The clip then cuts to footage from his earlier visit in 2014, where he was seen performing to a rather unimpressed-looking cat. It seems that time hasn't changed the cats' reaction to his music!

Fans took to the comments section to join in on the fun, with one jokingly suggesting that maybe the cats wanted to hear a song titled 'Purrfect.' Another person humorously referred to Sheeran as their 'spirit animal.' Despite this humorous encounter, it's worth noting that not all felines are afraid of the Grammy-winning artist. In fact, in December, Sheeran shared a heartwarming photo of himself cuddling up with one of Taylor Swift's three cats, Meredith Grey.

Captioned as 'Dumpington #3,' the photo showed Sheeran smiling and wearing a simple white tee as he cozied up to the kitty on an ottoman. Fans of Swift, known as Swifties, were thrilled to see Meredith, as she rarely makes appearances on Sheeran's social media. They flooded the comments section, expressing their excitement over seeing the beloved feline and even speculating about Sheeran's involvement in the re-recording process of Swift's album Reputation (Taylor's Version).

Swift herself has previously mentioned that out of her three cats, Meredith prefers to stay out of the spotlight. She described Meredith as a private little cat who dislikes having her picture taken. In 2020, Swift explained, '...She likes her business kept to herself. She doesn't like a camera shoved in her face, and who can blame her?' So, in sharing the snapshot with Sheeran, fans were treated to a rare glimpse of the elusive Meredith.

While Sheeran faced a setback with the cats at the Japanese cat cafe, his encounter with Swift's feline companion showed that not all cats are indifferent to him. It goes to show that even renowned musicians like Sheeran can have their share of amusing and adorable experiences, reminding us that sometimes animals can be quite unpredictable in their reactions. Whether it's a crowd of uninterested felines or a happy cuddle session with a celebrity's pet, these interactions serve as lighthearted moments that bring joy to fans and animal lovers alike.
