HYDERABAD: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday wrote to the excise and prohibition department, asking for all records in the Tollywood drugs case.
ED has asked for call details, WhatsApp chats, witness statements and confession records.
Recently, the Telangana high court ordered police to hand over all the documents to ED based on the petition filed by Telangana Congress president and MP A Revanth Reddy.
It was alleged by the petitioner that the prohibition and excise department is ill-equipped to investigate the drug issue, without any consultation or assistance from various specialized central government agencies such as the Narcotics Control Bureau, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and the Enforcement Directorate.
ED joint director Abhishek Goyal was present in the high court and sought handing over the documents as well as the digital records in order to arrive at some logical conclusion keeping in view the PML Act.
Director of Prohibition & Excise states that it filed charge sheets in all the 12 cases and the statements, has seized copies and other evidence, which were all submitted to the trial court. Certain copies of documents have been furnished to the ED also. “ED is certainly entitled for the certified copies of the FIRS, charge sheets, statements recorded, digital evidence seized and all other relevant documents in respect of the twelve FIRS registered by the Prohibition and Excise Departments during the months of July - August, 2017,” the HC said.
Abhishek Goyal told the court that entire record has not been deposited with the court in all the cases. The state government was directed to handover the entire record and data to the ED.
