Ebola deaths in DR Congo top 3,000 as WHO says vaccine trials imminent

More than 3,000 people have died of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the latest figures show, as the World Health Organisation says trials of three potential vaccines against the strain behind the current outbreak should begin within weeks.

The latest official toll released by the Congolese National Institute of Public Health on Wednesday showed 6,186 confirmed cases and 3,007 deaths, making a fatality rate of 48.6 percent.
