Eberechi Eze transfer link emerges to leave QPR hoping to bank £9million windfall

Queens Park Rangers could be in for a bumper seven-figure windfall this summer.

The Championship side sold their prized asset Eberechi Eze to London rivals Crystal Palace back in the summer of 2020.

Palace forked out £16million with the fee potentially rising to £20m when you include add-ons.

Now, in only his second season in the Premier League, Eze has been linked with another big-money move. Newcastle United are reportedly preparing a £45m swoop for the 23-year-old.

According to the Sun, the Magpies, who were taken over by Saudi-backed owners in October, did try to get Eze during the January transfer window but that such an approach was knocked back.

Can QPR join Eze in the Premier League next season? Let us know in the comments

Now, they are ready to go back in for Eze this summer - providing they retain their Premier League status.

And if the huge £45m fee is correct then it would net Rangers a tidy £9m income. That is because QPR inserted a 20 per cent sell-on fee into the original deal which took Eze to Selhurst Park.

Speaking at the time of the transfer, QPR director of football Les Ferdinand said: "You never want to lose one of your best players but the situation dictates that it's necessary so that we can, ultimately, grow and progress.

"I have no doubts Ebere will go on to enjoy a fantastic career in the game at the very top level.

"Allied to his natural talent, Ebere is an incredibly motivated, determined and humble individual and that is why there has been so much interest in him from Premier League sides."

Eze made 34 Premier League appearances last season before suffering an Achilles injury in May.

It has restricted him to just one league start so far this term, although he has been involved as part of Every Palace matchday squad in 2022.

Speaking in a recent interview with the EFL website, Eze looked back on his career including a loan spell with Wycombe and being given the chance at Rangers.

“Every so often I look back and think 'I’ve come a long way'," Eze said.

"From being in the changing room at Wycombe and trying to learn my trade and get into a first team I look back and I say I’m very grateful for all that I have learnt and thankful to God that he’s brought me this far because it’s been a long journey for sure.

"I owe a lot to QPR for the opportunity that they gave me and how much faith they put in me to put me in the first team, giving me the chance.

“I’m hugely appreciative to Chris Ramsey, Andrew Impey and Paul Hall as those guys helped me a lot and took me in (to the Club) as one of their own so I’ll always be grateful.

"Anything can happen as a lot of players in the Premier League who have come from the EFL will tell you."
