easyJet update for people travelling to and from Spain

easyJet has updated passengers travelling to and from Spain who have concerns amid planned industrial action.

Crew in Spain are set to walk out on July 15, 16, 17, as well as July 29, 30 and 31. The planned walk-outs are expected to add to the disruption during a holiday season which is already looking set for more chaos.

It comes after Ryanair staff in Spain also said they would strike. As with Ryanair's planned industrial action, the easyJet walkout has been organised by the Spanish USO union.

Some 450 workers based at Barcelona’s El Prat airport, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca will walk out. The union is looking for a 40% pay rise in low-paid cabin staff’s basic wage.

Many people travelling to and from Spain this month are worried about what this means for their trips. Responding to concerned travellers on Twitter, easyJet said: " Should the industrial action go ahead we would expect some disruption to our flying programme to and from Barcelona, Malaga, and Palma during the strike period but at this stage, easyJet plans to operate its full schedule.

"We would like to reassure customers that we will do everything possible to minimise any disruption".

easyJet has been approached for further comment.

Earlier today (Monday) the airline announced its chief operating officer Peter Bellew has resigned amid growing anger over flight disruption.

The airline has been one of the worst hit for cancellations in recent months. It has axed thousands of flights, including many on the day they were due to depart.

EasyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren said: "I would like to thank Peter for his hard work and wish him well. Everyone at easyJet remains absolutely focused on delivering a safe and reliable operation this summer."
