Easy iPhone trick lets you use two sets of headphones at once to share music

Apple has called time on a device that, two decades ago, revolutionised the way people listened to music. The iPod - the last iteration of which, the iPod Touch, is being discontinued - let people carry thousands of songs in their pocket to enjoy whenever and wherever they wanted, with the fun option of sharing music with someone else via a headphone splitter.

The iPod was long ago superseded by streaming services like Spotify, however. These are typically accessed via smartphones, which these days are not guaranteed to feature a standard headphone output socket, making it impossible to use the kind of splitter device that old iPods were compatible with.

But there is a way two sets of headphones can be connected to an iPhone at the same time, the Daily Star reports. And it's all achieved using the phone's settings too, with no special equipment required.

A video shared by TikTok user Tech Hack Guy has demonstrated how the method works. All that is needed is two sets of Bluetooth headphones - or speakers, if preferred.

The headphones could be Apple AirPods, but this is not strictly necessary. These are the steps that must be followed:

  1. Pair both headphones one-by-one to the iPhone using the Settings app
  2. Connect one of them and play some music or video
  3. Swipe down from the top right corner of the iPhone to access the Control Centre, then tap 'Music'
  4. There should be a Share Audio option. Tap it, and the iPhone should give a prompt to share the music with both sets of headphones
